“From a certain point onward there is no longer any turning back. That is the point that must be reached.”  — Franz Kafka, The Trial

The quote is from Kafka, by way of Paul Bowles. Each intones it with a darker meaning than I want to convey, but the intent is the same. It’s about going forward to whatever is out there. At their core, these trips are existential searches for me. They challenge, they heal, they provide escape.

This all started as notes from trips accumulated over more than a decade traveling (mostly) solo across five continents — little articles to a future self, possible stories for a book. Think Soccer in Sun & Shadows meets The Sexual Life of Catherine M, but without all the sex and futbol. I don’t know why it took so long to put some of it online.

Start here to read how it all began.
